Use the cards to play spelling bingo. Hand in the template and have the students write any of the words from the cards. Then, start calling the words. The winner is the one that crosses off all the words.
Board games are very engaging and interactive for your students. You can adapt all the games to suit your players to encourage participation. Is this something that you include in your lesson plan? Maybe not? Would like to?
To support vocabulary recognition
in the school unit, I created a word matching mat featuring school
objects and their corresponding words. Students can match the word cards to the
correct images on the mat.
For added versatility, the
mat can be placed inside a clear plastic sheet protector, allowing students to write
the words directly on the mat using a dry-erase marker. This makes the activity
reusable and interactive—perfect for literacy centers, early finishers, or
small group work!
In addition to the school object mats, I’ve included a fun set of color word mats featuring crayons. Each mat shows crayons in different colors, and students are invited to write the correct color word next to each one.
Just like the school object mats,
these can be placed inside clear plastic sleeves so students can use dry-erase
markers to write and wipe. This reusable format is perfect for reinforcing
color vocabulary while building spelling and handwriting skills in an engaging,
low-prep way!
Flap books are easy to use and can be part of the wrap up part of the lesson plan for the classroom objects. It will develop writing and reading from the very beginning.
