Birthday Unit Small Cards for Elementary ELLs

This resource is included in The Birthday Unit:   https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Birthday-Unit-for-Elementary-ESL-5279726

Birthday unit small cards offer a quick and engaging way to review the new vocabulary related to birthdays. Find these easy to store, prepare, and reuse, which reduces preparation time.

Enhance both language development and classroom interaction. The cards can be used for various activities such as Point to.

Teacher: Point to the balloon!

Just like this:

If you don’t have a pointer in hand, have the students pick up the card as you name it: It’s a blue cake.

Using the cards in activities like sentence-building activities is engaging and fun for the students. They can write a sentence for each small card on a white board using colorful markers.

Learners that are ready can write even more complex sentences.

You can draw a picture of a birthday item and have the class guess what it is: It’s a candle! Students can play the game in pairs or small groups using the cards.

Listen!

The cards allow teachers to cater to different levels by adjusting the complexity of the tasks such as pair matching for beginners. Students will match the preposition word to the corresponding picture. Just cut the word out of each card. This kind of activity will help develop students’ cognitive skills, including concentration and recall of the location words.

Speaking opportunity!
