Worksheets for Elementary English Language Learners

 Worksheets fall into the practice part of a lesson plan. use them to expand the language syllabus.Sometimes we just need more because of the students in our classroom in that moment. Text books just come a limited quantity of activity book pages, so here I present a set of lots of worksheets for each unit for you to choose the ones that you think you learners will benefit from.

Here is an example of the worksheets available for the greetings unit. There is a presentation page.

I placed them into clear plastic sheets and into a folder.  This way it will save you money on printing a set for every student. You can just have several sets available.

Students can grab the folder, write on the worksheets using a dry erase marker and then erase the answers after you have checked it for another student to use them.

The worksheets can help with assessment as a way to prepare for an upcoming test with almost all the type of questions and tasks.

Printable mini books allow students to practice vocabulary while combining reading, writing, and creativity.

Simple printable books can be engaging for your students. They will actively color the teddy bears and cut /paste the texts or just write their own texts for their peers to read. It is a creative process to connect the language learned.

Printable Toys unit games are a fun addition to your resource library. They are engaging and motivating for your students. Students are usually interested to actively participate in the different games available.

Toys Vocabulary Board Game

The printable board game encourages students to practice vocabulary while moving around the board.

Board games help students practice speaking and strategic thinking while reinforcing vocabulary.

The board games are just print and assemble the markers. This kind of games involve strategic thinking. Students will have to describe where they land in order to move on the board.

Descriptive Sentence Game

 Print a worksheet for each student and a set of cards for each group f. Students will have to create as many sentences as they can and draw a representation on the space provided. Award points to longer sentences. This activity contributes to language fluency as they practice constructing sentences. This is an opportunity for the students to gain confidence in using the new language.

Letter Tiles Vocabulary Activity

The letter tiles are an interactive learning activity. Students can actively form words or crosswords for the toys vocabulary words. Print one or two templates for each group. They will learn to cooperate while putting the letters in words in order.

Students match pictures of toys with the correct vocabulary words. Matching activities help reinforce visual recognition and vocabulary retention.

Sentence and picture association game

It is fun to use as a grammar reinforcement practice. It is a cognitive skill builder when children match descriptions with visual representation.

Picture Association Game

Many ways to play this toys unit word association game. It can be simple matching the word to the picture, memory and any other to practice turn-taking.

What about having the players construct sentences using the word or picture that are in a pile as they come up.

Pocket Chart Sentence Activity

 Have students the practice sentence construction and reading as the match the sentence to the picture.

Teaching numbers becomes more engaging when students work with colorful characters such as robots. Found this activity for spelling practice to help memorize the key vocabulary. Print the template for each student. Have them throw the dice and count the letters in each toy word. Then, they write it under the corresponding dice. Students can even look up for more toys words and complete the columns.

The idea is to throw the die and complete the spelling bingo printable. Then, start playing as you call on the words and the students tick them all to shout BINGO! It is a fun and easy way to have the students write the new words and memorize them.

Another easy idea for the students to work individually or in pairs, is to cut the word out of each card and have them match to the correct picture.

Guess the Toy Game

Guess! Place all the small cards in a stack in the middle of a group of students. Students will take turns to guess which is the top card before turning it. If he/she could guess, then keeps the card. If not, the card goes to the bottom of the pack. The winner is the one with the most cards.

Toys Tic-Tac-Toe Game

Use the printable templates to create the tic tac toe game for speaking interaction. Students say the toy word before placing their mark on the board.
