Day 4 of the 31 days of Halloween 2020 New Resources for ESL or EFL Students


Day 4. Halloween Numbers printable!!   Just the numbers 1 to 10 to do activities in class.

Print the Pumpkin Numbers template and have the students color the numbers as you dictate them. It’s numbers and colors review. They can even say the color for each number. Teacher: Color Number 1 red.

The students cut all the numbers and the games will start.

Students can make a number sequence on their desk. Then, ask questions about the color of each number.
Teacher: What color is number 2?
Students: Black!
Teacher: Number two is black.

Using magnetic numbers students can match one number to another.

I used the Bingo cards from the last resource to match the number representation.

Using the cards from the previous resource and placed a card under each number. Ask questions:
Teacher: Who is number 3?
Students: The Devil!
Students: Number 9!
Teacher: Witch!
Teacher: The Haunted House!
Students: Five!
 

I placed the number cutouts on recycled CDs. I cut yellow cardboard to cover the CD. Then, glued the number. It is easier to manipulate online or in class.

 

Use manipulatives to match the numbers to the amount each number respresents.

I am adding the numbers words for more activities.

Adjectives for EFL Students part 2

As a warm up, ask questions using the cutouts. The cutouts can be held in your hand or pin them to a corkboard or to a small board.
Teacher: What is this ?
Students: It’s a car.
Teacher: What color is the car ?
Students: It’s red.
Teacher: Is it dirty or clean ?
Students: It’s dirty.
Repeat with the other car.






Place more cutouts on the board. Point to a cutout and say the adjective and model a sentence. Then, have the class say the opposite adjective and a similar sentence.
Teacher: small. It’s a small tree.
Students: big. It’s a big tree.
Repeat with the other cutouts.
Ask more questions for happy and sad and for new and old.
Teacher: Who is sad?
Students: He is sad. A students comes up and points to the cutout and answers the question.
Teacher: Which car is new?
Students: The pink car.
Teacher: Which car is old?
Students: The red car.
                                   Hot and cold examples for food.
 Hand in all the cutouts to random students in the class. Call out a cutout and that student stands up and shows it to class and repeats the sentence.
Teacher: Sad man. Show me a sad man.

School Unit for Elementary English Language Learners

This resource comes with 24 small School Unit flashcards. Use them to have your students identify the school supplies.
School Unit flashcards

Here are some 
Flashcards Ideas to introduce or review the classroom or school objects vocabulary.
1. Who has it ?  Game : pass out all the school flashcards to some students in the class. Call out a word that is on a card. The student with that card has to stand up, show the card and say the word. Continue with all the playing cards.

2.  YES or NO puppetsMake the puppets by printing the template onto cardboard and gluing a craft stick behind each puppet.
Hold up a school flashcard and ask: Is it a (table) ?
Prompt the students to nod(YES) or shake(NO) their heads and answer YES or NO.  And you can also use the YES and NO puppet.
If the answer is YES, have them repeat: Yes, It´s a pen.(Show the yes puppet)
If the answer is NO, have them repeat NO, it isn´t a table. It's a crayon. (Show the NO puppet)

3. Review or Evaluation:
Place on the board  or table a flashcard. Say a word or sentence. Have the child point to the flashcard. 
Teacher: eraser. It´s an eraser.
Student:( Points) eraser.

Teacher: board. It´s a board.
Student:( Points) board.
Teacher: Very Good.

The prize or reward for your students
. Print and tape a safety pin behind each prize. As each student masters the flashcards give the prize.


4. Another Game: Display all the flashcards with a number under each one. The teacher or the student names a flashcard in a random order and the class says the number . Then say a number  and the class says the flashcard word or a sentence: The scissors are red.

Bingo Game: 
Distribute the blank bingo grid to each student. Have the students fill in 7 school words. Draw a random card and call it out so that the student can look for the word in their bingo grid and cross it off. When a student  has  crossed out all the words , he or she calls out  BINGO !  

Also make your call out Bingo folder. I made two sets, a black and white one and a colored version. Print the black and white small cards  onto colored  paper and the colored set onto white paper. As you call out the words just place them on the folder where they belong. Using this system children can play  in small groups.

 School theme book:
Give students the chance to read. Read to them or have them read after they know the vocabulary words. This is a decodable book that builds on previously taught words, helping students gain confidence and fluency. You can conduct guided reading so students can follow along, make as many copies as needed, maybe one for 2 students. Have students reread with their partner.  It can be used on electronics as a pdf file.
               

           There is another book.

School unit Task cards: make the  copies need. Laminate for further use. Display a set of cards to each group of 4 or 6 students. 

Students select their task card and write the answer in their notebook in the order of their preference.

This is a school unit memory matching game. It can be used to assess the students by connecting the cards. Print the sets of cards, one with pictures and another with the names of the school objects. Divide the class into groups of no more than 4. Hand each group a set of cards. Have the students spread the cards facing up on the table and take turns connecting the corresponding names and pictures. The student who correctly connects the most pairs of cards wins. 

 school unit Pocket charts: so many uses in the classroom, get one because I´ll be posting many ideas. This is a simple matching the phrase to the picture. After they finish students can write all phrases in their notebooks.



Let’s start by introducing the Prepositions Flashcards.
Here are some examples on how to use the flashcards to introduce the grammar structures: 

 

  I prepared a School unit sentence association game. I did it in a different way this time. I placed the pictures pages in a clear sheet and then cut all the sentences into cards. The aim of the game is to match the sentence card to each picture.

The school unit cutouts! Now when distance learning is on demand, I researched that most teachers use cutouts. I love cutouts. I started using them when teaching with the book Sprinkles. The cutouts can be used for many things.

The cutouts can be used on the board. I made two examples. But the cutouts are great for using them within your lesson plan.


Give the students the cutouts and have them place them where they want and say a sentence. It a nice speaking activity. My children did it for me, I did not make any corrections. Watch the video.

Here is the picture of the end of the activity, I had to trim the video. Have the students draw their own picture inspired on the cutouts activity. Then, write a description.

Sometimes holding the cutouts with your hand might be complicated if you are doing distance learning. I glued a craft stick behind each cutout and made a short VIDEO demonstration on how to teach using the cutouts. Obviously, have the students repeat after you. Then, ask questions as you put up the cutouts.

 Make a school unit 
book. The students read the sentences and complete the book by gluing the school items where they belong.
