Here is a printable board game to use with small groups of students as a review of numbers 1 to 20. There is a colored version and a black and white that the students can color as they wish. The game can help consolidate the new number words. Use for speaking and turn-taking practice.

Lots of small cards to play a matching pair of numbers and picture, or memory to recognize the numbers in print and numeral.  It’s a co-operative kind of game working together to match all the cards. Perfect for quick warm-ups and review.

There is even more matching and counting the pencils in each cup to match to the numeral and the word. Students will be able to: count from 1 to 20, recognize numerals and quantities.

These number cards can be glued into a file folder to create an engaging matching game. Students match each number word to the corresponding numeral, providing a fun hands-on learning activity.

Benefit: This game helps strengthen number recognition skills.


A worksheet to wrap up counting the pencils and reviewing the colors at the same time. Do some listening comprehension as you dictate the colors of each number:

Then, students fill in the color word in each sentence.

Use the cards above to play this motivating spelling bingo game. Students will write any numbers from 1 to 20 on the blank lines. Use the cards to call out the numbers.

Recognize numerals bingo game

Use the small cards to play the automatic number. Hand in either the number word card or the numeral to each student. They stand in a circle with their card and not showing it. The students with number one says: one! the student with the number two, says: two! And so on. They can repeat but in a faster and automatic way. You can vary by handing in two cards instead of one to make it more difficult. Skill practice is Oral counting and pronunciation.

A little writing the number words with these colorful letters. Have the students find the letters and write the words corresponding to each number from 1 to 20. It will be an enjoyable task to complete, either individually or in a group as a collaborative learning experience.

Write descriptive sentences. Hand in the blank worksheet and the small cards with words to create sentences. You can write even more words on the blank cards provided.  Each student will make a sentence or phrase and draw on the square to illustrate. Students can compare their work.

Express preferences using the Favorite color worksheets.

Practice asking and answering questions about the favorite color. Display the color flashcards around the classroom. Have the students to run to their favorite color flashcard and stand next to it. Ask them: What’s your favorite color?

Students: It’s red!

Ask: What’s your favourite colour? and encourage different students to answer. Then, they can complete the worksheet. Use your color flashcards or small cards to name several colors and the students with that color mentioned  in their worksheets should stand up. Write the amount of students that stood up on board, so you can start a graph.

Express preferences using the Favorite color worksheets.

Give a twist to the graph for the favorite color. Place colored balloons at several parts of the classroom. After the students finish their favorite color worksheets. Have them find the balloon of their favorite color and stand right there. Tally the results.

Colors Unit Games

Printable ESL colors games make vocabulary practice fun and interactive. Games increase motivation and help students remember vocabulary more effectively.

Play a colors board game. Print as many as you need and set up the board game. Students should be able to understand and use the color vocabulary as they play.

Color Word Bingo

 Bingo is a vocabulary game with a focus on memorization and listening comprehension.

Use any of the color word worksheets to create 2 Bingo grids to use any time during any of your lesson. Students will cut and paste the colors splash and words randomly. As they play, they have to recognize the color words being called. You can be the caller or have any other students be it, using the color flashcards or small cards.

  Matching Game

Students match each color splotch card to the corresponding color word card. This hands-on activity helps reinforce color vocabulary, word recognition, visual discrimination, and fine motor skills. It is ideal for literacy centers, small-group practice, or independent learning.

Turn the color cards into a  memory game! Place all the color word cards and color splotch cards face down on a table. Students take turns flipping over two cards, trying to find a matching pair. To make a match, students must find the color word and the corresponding color splotch. This activity helps develop memory, concentration, color recognition, and early reading skills while making learning fun.


  Match it up: hand in one card to each student in the class. At your signal, students walk around looking for their match. If they find someone with the matching card, they stand together and say: Match up!
