Lots of small cards to play a matching pair of numbers and picture, or memory to recognize the numbers in print and numeral.  It’s a co-operative kind of game working together to match all the cards.

recognize the numbers in print and numeral

Use the cards above to play this motivating spelling bingo game. Students will write any numbers from 1 to 20 on the blank lines. Use the cards to call out the numbers.

Use the small cards to play the automatic number. Hand in either the number word card or the numeral to each student. They stand in a circle with their card and not showing it. The students with number one says: one! the student with the number two, says: two! And so on. They can repeat but in a faster and automatic way. You can vary by handing in two cards instead of one to make it more difficult.

A little writing the number words with these colorful letters. Have the students find the letters and write the words corresponding to each number from 1 to 20. It will be an enjoyable task to complete, either individually or in a group as a collaborative learning experience.

Day 3 of the 31 days of Halloween 2020 New Resources for ESL or EFL Students

LINK to the Halloween resource: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/31-days-of-Halloween-for-Kindergarten-and-Elementary-ESL-6087756

Day 3. Halloween small cards!!

Just 24 cards with the main vocabulary words used in Halloween. The cards are small enough for online teaching or small groups approach.

The cards can be used to teach or review the vocabulary. Video:

And now, the games! The most obvious, Memory Game. Just print double and you have Memory! A video:

I came across a game that I used to play with my students years ago. It’s called SNAP! You might have played, too. Print 2 sets of cards. Students mainly pay in groups of 4. Distribute all the cards, students place all the 6  cards face down on a pile in front of them. The first students turns over their top card of their pile and say the Word.  The next student turns over the top card say the Word again. And so on. When two cards are the same, the first player to say SNAP! And slap the two cards wins the two cards. The winner is the one with the most sets of cards. Take a look.

Using a recycled old CD case as a board. Students write the Word that is on each card.

Vocabulary can be written using magnetic letters

Sorting can happen using plastic plates. I wrote the words person and thing and had the students sort the cards.

A Grid can de done on a small board for online teaching or just for small groups. I placed a magnet behind each card. Make the grid as big as you want. I created an example here. You say a number letter combination and students will say what is there. Or you say the Word and the say the number-letter combination of its location.

Look at it.

Play Spelling Bingo. Students complete their spelling grid with the words from the cards. You call out the bingo using the cards.

I am sure you can think of more games and activities, leave me your idea below. Make sure to review the numbers!   https://eflelementaryresources.blogspot.com/2020/10/day-4-of-31-days-of-halloween-2020-new.html

Recycle old CD Cases and CDs for distance teaching

With distance learning taking place for many English Language Learners sometimes you need that the students get a board. Well, the wipe board might be at home between the DVD movies. Have the students collect the old DVD or CD cases and take out the movie insert and place a blank paper inside the case.

Offer new learning opportunities to your students.

Old CDs that sit around the house of your students can be recycled. I made this FREE printable for the family members. Students can print them at home and you can use them for speaking opportunities through the distance learning.  It is as easy as printing and gluing.
Teacher: Show me mommy!
Students: Mommy!
It is available just by request. Here is my email: ei98srl@gmail.com

Here are some ideas on how to use the CD cases in class but easily adapted for distance teaching.

Idea 1. Any dry erase marker works for writing on the case. Use it for dictation or spelling practice. Everything can be erased using a baby wipe.

Open the CD case and insert colored paper and have the students sort any cards or write words that need to be sorted.

Idea 2. Students can cut magazine pictures and write the words on the CD case. Then, they can store the pictures inside the case to use them in another occasion.

I made a game board and I made a game board and then placed the game pieces inside the case. Anything can be stored inside.

Idea 3. I also made an accordion book for the CD case.

In case you want the templates to the ideas seen above, here is the link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Breakfast-and-Lunch-FOOD-unit-for-Kindergarten-and-Elementary-EFL-2393252
