Day 3 of the 31 days of Halloween 2020 New Resources for ESL or EFL Students

LINK to the Halloween resource: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/31-days-of-Halloween-for-Kindergarten-and-Elementary-ESL-6087756

Day 3. Halloween small cards!!

Just 24 cards with the main vocabulary words used in Halloween. The cards are small enough for online teaching or small groups approach.

The cards can be used to teach or review the vocabulary. Video:

And now, the games! The most obvious, Memory Game. Just print double and you have Memory! A video:

I came across a game that I used to play with my students years ago. It’s called SNAP! You might have played, too. Print 2 sets of cards. Students mainly pay in groups of 4. Distribute all the cards, students place all the 6  cards face down on a pile in front of them. The first students turns over their top card of their pile and say the Word.  The next student turns over the top card say the Word again. And so on. When two cards are the same, the first player to say SNAP! And slap the two cards wins the two cards. The winner is the one with the most sets of cards. Take a look.

Using a recycled old CD case as a board. Students write the Word that is on each card.

Vocabulary can be written using magnetic letters

Sorting can happen using plastic plates. I wrote the words person and thing and had the students sort the cards.

A Grid can de done on a small board for online teaching or just for small groups. I placed a magnet behind each card. Make the grid as big as you want. I created an example here. You say a number letter combination and students will say what is there. Or you say the Word and the say the number-letter combination of its location.

Look at it.

Play Spelling Bingo. Students complete their spelling grid with the words from the cards. You call out the bingo using the cards.

I am sure you can think of more games and activities, leave me your idea below. Make sure to review the numbers!   https://eflelementaryresources.blogspot.com/2020/10/day-4-of-31-days-of-halloween-2020-new.html

Day 2 of the 31 days of Halloween 2020 New Resources for ESL or EFL Students

Day 2.  Halloween BINGO game!!  Today it is the BINGO game! I love playing this game in class. There is a template for the students.

The calling cards for the teacher. I only added these colors. If you need more colors just color the students template or let me know to make them for you.

There are more things to do with the calling cards. I suggest students sort the cards on their template to review the vocabulary.

Incorporate speaking ¡ Take a look.

The sorting can be done on a pocket chart or on the table.

The student’s template can be turned into a mobile. I found this idea of using straws to do it. It was quite easy. I used thin straws but maybe thicker straws would be better. I passed yarn through the Straw to put the mobile up.

 Finished look.

I would love to see how how you used the templates.

Adjectives and Face for ESL

Link to the resource here for your lesson planning :
or, It is available here:

Here are 28 face cards for description.

An example on how to use them for speaking.
Teacher: What number is this ?
Student: Three.
Teacher: Who is she ?
Student: Ann.
Teacher: What color is her hair ?
Student: orange.
Teacher: What color are her eyes ?
Student: green.
Teacher: Ann has orange hair and green eyes.
Students: Sig has brown hair and brown eyes.

Place these two flashcards on a small board to present the order of the adjectives to describe the hair. Use a different marker or chalk for each set of words.
Point to both hair and ask questions.
Teacher: Look at Kelly. What color is her hair ?
Student: black. The teacher writes the word black. Do the same for Felicia.
Teacher: Look at Felicia. Her hair is long. The teacher writes the word long and trace her long hair. Do the same for Kelly.
Teacher: Look at Kelly. Her hair is curly. The teacher writes the word curly and trace her curly hair. Do the same for Felicia.
Describe Kelly’s hair and then have the students describe Felicia’s. Remember the order: length, type of hair, color.
Teacher: Kelly has short curly black hair.
Teacher: Felicia has long straight blonde hair.

Place the people flashcards on a board. Have the students sort the flashcards into hair color, length and type of hair. Use this opportunity to introduce two more adjectives: handsome for men and pretty for women.
The students can describe each flashcard after downloading them on the tablet or any other electronic device. Watch the video:

Play Who am I ? Game.

Student 1: Is it a man or a woman?
Teacher: It’s a man.
Student 1: Does he have black hair?
Teacher: No, he doesn’t.
Student 1: Does he have short hair?

Have the students ask questions to their classmates using the card.

Then make a big graph on the board using the flashcards.

Scrabble. Have the students make a scrabble puzzle of the adjective words.

                              Just a few more flashcards: happy-sad, young-old.

Town, Community Helper and Transportation for ESL Part 2

This is the blog post for part 1.
Here is the link to the complete product:

I added a board game. I printed it on a letter size paper.

                                           Watch the video.
All the town items are in a road circuit. This game will not need a die. Each student will pick a transportation marker, which I taped an opened clip behind the card. The first student picks a card from the pile and reads the questions. Then, moves the transportation marker to the town place and puts the card on it. If the student knows the answer can place the card, if not, that student can’t place the card. The winner is the student that places the most cards on the road. Watch the video:

A teacher that bought this product said that the cards were too small. I appreciate when teachers say something to improve. I made the cards a little bigger and they work well for sorting.  The cards can be used for distance teaching by placing a craft stick behind each one and turned into flashcards. The actual flashcards that come in the product are classroom size.
It can be sorted on a table or use the pocket chart. Have the students make sentences.
Teacher: The zoo keepers are at the zoo. They have a jeep.
Just 4 Worksheets for sorting the town places, the community helpers or jobs and transportation.

First, have the students color the worksheets as you dictate each one, or even better have the students dictate how to color each one. Then, students write the word for each item in all the worksheets.
Teacher: The post office is purple.
Have the students cut all the cards from the worksheets. There are many things that you can do with them. I just thought of sorting.
Students can write sentences on their notebooks.

All the community helpers resources have been bundled.                 Check them out here.   https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Community-Helpers-Unit-for-ESL-BUNDLE-6415647
