The Halloween skeleton adds a playful, spooky twist to the traditional body unit, keeping students motivated and excited to review words like head, arm, leg, foot, hand, and ribs.  Includes flashcards, worksheets, games, crafts, puzzles, and speaking activities for Elementary ESL and ELL students.

Skeleton Flashcards

These skeleton flashcards make learning anatomy fun, visual, and interactive. Their clear illustrations and simple labels help young learners quickly identify and remember the main parts of the skeleton while building essential science and English vocabulary. Perfect for whole-class instruction, small groups, learning centers, games, and bulletin boards, these flashcards keep students engaged and support confident learning through hands-on activities.

Skeleton Flashcards

Label the parts of the body on the skeleton

The teacher places a skeleton flashcard on the board.

Students come up one by one to label the body parts using word cards, sticky notes, or by writing directly on the board with markers. This promotes whole-class participation.

Students label the parts of the skeleton directly on a flashcard placed inside a clear plastic sheet using whiteboard markers. They can write the words for head, arms, legs, feet, ribs, bones, and pelvis, then erase and repeat for practice. Students engage with the vocabulary by writing it themselves, reinforcing spelling and word recognition.

Skeleton body parts vocabulary cards

Students sort the skeleton body part flashcards into two groups — left and right.

For example, they place left arm, left leg, left hand on one side, and right arm, right leg, right hand on the other. This can be done on the board, in a pocket chart, or on their desks as a group or partner activity.
Students use the skeleton flashcard to count how many of each part the skeleton has. For example:  The skeleton has one head./ The skeleton has two arms./ The skeleton has three fingers.

Skeleton Small Cards Activities

The small cards can be used for forming simple sentences (e.g., The skeleton has two legs. / This is the skeleton’s head.), allowing students to practice speaking.

As a speaking activity:

Cut out the word from each small card and then match it to the correct picture. This will strengthen their reading comprehension and vocabulary recall.

Students use the small skeleton body part cards to write simple sentences such as: This is the skeleton’s hand./ This is the skeleton’s leg./ This is the skeleton’s head.  They can write the sentences on paper, mini whiteboards, or in their notebooks after choosing or drawing a card.

Skeleton Body Part Worksheets

Label the Skeleton Worksheet. Students write the correct word next to each body part.

Skeleton Craft

This craft-style activity perfectly combines art, language, and kinesthetic learning. Students build their own skeleton craft by gluing the body part cutouts onto a frame made with chenille stems (pipe cleaners).

Elementary ELL skeleton craft activity

They color each piece, assemble the skeleton, and glue or tape it onto construction paper. Once their skeletons are complete, students describe their creations to the class using full sentences, such as:  This is my skeleton./  It has two arms and two legs. / The skeleton’s head is gray.

Here I am with my description:

Students match each word to the correct skeleton body part by connecting or assembling puzzle pieces. Each piece includes a word and a corresponding picture of that part on the skeleton. Matching words to pictures helps ELLs connect spoken and written English naturally, reinforcing comprehension through a hands-on activity.

Halloween Colors Activities for Elementary ESL | Flashcards, Games, Worksheets & Puzzle

This Halloween Colors resource provides multiple opportunities for students to practice color vocabulary through speaking, listening, reading, writing, and hands-on learning.

This resource is available to download, here:   https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Halloween-Colors-Activities-for-Elementary-ESL-Flashcards-Games-Worksheets-14538481

This Halloween Colors resource helps English Language Learners practice color vocabulary through flashcards, interactive games, puzzles, worksheets, and speaking activities. Students learn colors in a meaningful Halloween context while building vocabulary, improving pronunciation, developing reading skills, and gaining confidence using simple descriptive sentences. These printable activities are ideal for whole-class lessons, centers, partner work, and independent practice.

Instead of learning colors in isolation, students learn them in a meaningful Halloween context. By connecting color vocabulary to familiar Halloween characters and objects such as pumpkins, ghosts, witches, bats, and monsters, learners can better remember and use the new words.

Halloween Color Flashcards for ESL Learners

Draw the grid on the board and place the Halloween characters flashcards in each box. Call out “A2!
Teacher: Yes! What color is the witch?
Students: green! She’s a green witch.

Students: It’s the witch!

Halloween grid on the board

Draw the color splotches on the board and have the students start sorting according to color. Ask questions: What is brown?

Students: the tree, the coffin, the Werewolf.

Students work together to sort the Halloween flashcards into two categories on the board: person and thing. As they place each card, they discuss whether it is a character (person) or an object (thing) and explain their choices.

Place any flashcard in a clear plastic sheet. Using a whiteboard marker students write sentences about the image.

Speaking Activities with Halloween Colors

Spin the bottle using the small cards. Students will sit in a circle with a plastic bottle in the middle. Display the cards in a line in front of the children. One of them can spin the bottle and the others wait until it stops. The bottle is pointing to a student and has to pick a card say what it is or a sentence.

The small cards work well for short paragraph writing. Students choose a Halloween flashcard and write simple descriptive sentences about it, practicing vocabulary, colors, and complete sentence writing.

Play match the word to the picture, jusy cut the word out of each card.

Go upstairs with the small cards.

Place clear masking tape on the ladder part of the card and hand in to an individual child or group along a dry erase marker. Cut the words from the small cards and students arrange them into a pile. When the student recognizes a Halloween card correctly he checks a space on the stair. The first one to make it to the top wins.

Go upstairs with the small cards.

Halloween Coloring Worksheets.

Each worksheet has Halloween characters and objects for students to color according to the color word provided.

Color Recognition Practice. Students identify the color word (orange, green, black, purple, etc.) and color the picture correctly.

Halloween coloring worksheet for English language learners

As an extension students make simple sentences after coloring: “The tombstone is gray. ”The ghosts are yellow, black, red, purple, brown, white, orange, blue, green, and pink.

elementary english Halloween worksheets

Students will strengthen color vocabulary in context in this worksheet.

Halloween esl activities

Another benefit is that the worksheets give students a clear visual connection between the written color word and the object, helping them build stronger word recognition skills.

Halloween Color Vocabulary Puzzles

Puzzle Match & Say.

Students take turns picking a piece (picture or word). They find the matching piece and say the full phrase: “Purple haunted house.”

Halloween Letter Tiles and Spelling Practice

I added letter tiles with Halloween features to make crosswords of the color words

or to write the Halloween words.

Fun Classroom Games to Teach Emotions to Elementary ELLs

This resource ( printable emotions vocabulary game ELL )can be found here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Emotions-Unit-for-Elementary-EFL-2023631

emotions unit communicative approach

Games give students repeated exposure to the target vocabulary (happy, sad, angry, etc.) in a way that feels natural and engaging instead of repetitive drills. Many games require students to talk, listen, and respond. This encourages oral language development and gives them confidence in using English naturally.

ESL emotions board game activity.

Since the board game path has only emotion words, students need to match to emotion cards to stay in their spot.   Students roll the die and move along the path. If they land on “angry,” they must find the matching angry picture card. If correct, they stay; if not, they move back one space.

Emotions board game

This Emotions Vocabulary Domino Game is designed to build vocabulary, practice reading, and make connections between words and pictures. Students match emotion words like happy, sad, angry, scared, worried, shocked, and excited with their corresponding *emotion picture cards.

esl emotions classroom games

Playing the Guess Who? Emotions Classroom Game/ Yes/No Questions.

To play the Guess Who game, teachers should prepare a display for each student. A simple way is to cut the front panel from a cereal box and use the side flaps to staple or tape it so it stands upright. Then, glue the printable part  on the front of the display. Each student will have their own standing display to use during the game.

One student chooses a card with an emotion. The other students take turns asking yes/no questions:
“Is she happy?” → “No.”
“Is he angry?” → “Yes!”

Build the Emotion Words with printable letter tiles.

Give students a pile of mixed letter tiles. Call out or show a picture of an emotion (e.g., happy) using the wheel. Students race to build the word with their tiles.
