In this activity, the teacher uses the action
flashcards in the resource to introduce the structure be going to + verb.
Students look at the flashcard and create sentences such as, "He is going to
play baseball this weekend." Perfect for elementary EFL

Expressing Intentions with Going to
Use these flashcards to help students express
intentions about things they plan to do in the future.
The teacher shows an action flashcard, and students says
a sentence, such as "They are going to do homework this weekend."

Asking About Future Plans with Going to
Use these flashcards to encourage students to ask and
answer questions about future plans.
The teacher
shows an action flashcard and models questions such as "Are they going
to eat out this weekend?" Students
respond using short answers and complete sentences: Yes, they are.
This interactive activity develops speaking skills for
elementary EFL learners.
Writing Future Schedules and Personal Plans with Going
to
Help students organize and write about their future
plans using the flashcards.
The teacher displays action flashcards on the board,
and students use them to create simple schedules and personal plans with be
going to. There is a simple format to use.
Four Corners Future Plans
Place four or more action flashcards in different
corners of the classroom. Students walk around in pairs, look at the
flashcards, and talk about their weekend plans using be going to.
As they move from corner to corner, students point to
a flashcard and make sentences such as: I am going to read
this weekend.
To provide additional grammar practice, encourage
students to make negative sentences as well: I am not going to
read this weekend.
Students can also ask their partners questions about
their plans: What are you going to do this weekend? Are you going to ride a
bike?
This interactive activity helps learners practice
affirmative and negative forms of going to, develop speaking confidence,
and share personal future plans in a fun and meaningful way.
Brainstorming Mind Map: Future Plans with Going to
Students will create a visual mind map. Ask students
to write the grammar point Future Plans: Going to in the center of a
sheet of paper. Next, display several action flashcards on the board. Students
choose activities that match their weekend plans and connect each flashcard
idea to the center of their mind map.
As they add each activity, students write complete
sentences using be going to. For example: I am going to
go fishing.
For additional practice, students can also include
negative sentences: I am not going to go fishing.
When finished, students present their mind maps to the
class and read their sentences aloud.
