Snake Numbers 1–20 Activities – Flashcards, Worksheets, Games & Matching Mats | ELL

This resource is found here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Present-Continuous-for-Elementary-ESL-4403402

The resource works across multiple skill levels—students can match, speak, write, or act depending on their ability to learn the numbers 1 to 20.

The flashcards feature a snake eating the number.

Invite a student to the front to describe the image on the flashcard with sentences like:

“The snake is eating number fifteen.”

These flashcards allow teachers to build Number recognition.  Play Go to the Snake!" Movement Game. Place the flashcards around the classroom—on the walls, chairs, or desks. Say a full sentence out loud, such as:
“The snake is eating number twelve.”

Students listen carefully, look around, and walk to the correct flashcard. They have to say the sentence: “Yes! The snake is eating number twelve!”

Write the sentence activity. Write the Sentence Activity. Give students a snake flashcard and have them write: “The snake is eating number seventeen”

Cut the words out of each small card and play match.

Worksheet set 1. Students read the sentence, find the correct snake, and color it accordingly. It is a way to reinforce numbers 1 to 20.

In this worksheet, students look at each numeral and write the corresponding number word. Use it as a way to strengthen numeral to word connection.

This worksheet invites students to draw lines to connect each numeral to its matching number word. For example, they match 12 to twelve, and 7 to seven.  It reinforces sight reading of number words.

Students complete a sequence of number words by writing the missing ones. It supports pattern recognition and sequencing skills.

This Bingo worksheet features four small Bingo grids, perfect for playing in pairs or small groups. Each student writes five random numbers (1–20) in each grid. The teacher or a student calls out number words, and players mark their spaces as they listen.

In this interactive worksheet, students listen to the teacher read short sentences:

“The black snake is eating number twelve.”
Then they find the correct snake and color it according to the description.

The matching mats are great for independent work, centers, or partner games.

Write It In. Place the mat into a clear plastic sheet and with dry-erase markers, students write the number word on each snake.

Make a number sequence with any cards from the mats.

This game board features a colorful path of snakes, each showing a number from 1 to 20. Students roll a die and move along the path, landing on different snake numbers as they go. As a twist, students Write the Word on the bingo worksheet described above, where they write the number word they landed on after each turn.

Toys Unit Robots Numbers 1 to 20

This resource is included in Toys Unit for Elementary English Language Learners-Starters.  LINK: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Toys-unit-for-Elementary-English-Language-Learners-Starters-1865563

Teaching numbers 1 to 20 is a key foundational skill for early learners. Using this robot-themed resource makes this learning process more interactive.

Each robot flashcard features a robot with a set number of dots on its body. This helps children: Connect numerals with quantities visually and develop one-to-one correspondence skills.

Kinesthetic learners can jump or hop next to the flashcard with the number you say. Perfect movement-based game.

Students will connect numerals with quantities visually by writing the number with a dry erase marker.

Auditory learners can practice counting out loud and matching number words. Then, place any numbers cutouts to match the dots on each robot.

Counting in sequence. Line Up the Numbers small cards. Learners will shuffle the cards and working in pairs line them up in the correct order (1 to 20). But, previously cut up the printable template.

Students can use the small cards on their notebooks as they write the numeral and the word. This is a practice for the adjectives of quantities.

adjectives of quantities

A Worksheet for Basic math vocabulary development. Students write the number word.

Matching numerals to number words worksheet.

The worksheet set supports meaningful learning in the classroom. Students can see the number, count visual objects (robot dots/buttons), then write the numeral and/or number word.

Learners will cut the number words and glue onto each robot. This multi-sensory approach helps cement number understanding.

Encourage independent work habits by using this worksheet completing the  number word sequence.

Each student receives a blank grid-style BINGO worksheet with 4 boards. Instead of using pre-filled numbers, they write in the numbers 1 to 20 in random order on each one. The included small robot cards double as your bingo calling cards.

Board game. After landing on a number, the student finds and colors or covers the same number on their number mat or worksheet.

Numbers mats. There are 3 of them. Provide students with number cards from one mat (e.g., 15) and have them place them on the corresponding robot with the fifteen dots and the number words from the third mat (e.g., fifteen).

Birthday Numbers 1 to 20 for Elementary ELLs

This resource is included in The Birthday Unit: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Birthday-Unit-for-Elementary-ESL-5279726

Mastery of number words and symbols enables ELLs to follow lessons confidently. They need to understand, say, and respond to numbers in classroom instructions.

There are two sets—number flashcards with balloons and balloon clipart for counting. They are perfect to build number recognition, one-to-one correspondence, and oral language skills for your ELLs.

Use the flashcards for the students recognize and name numbers 1 to 20. They can match the numeral to the balloon bunch card.

The flash cards are great for scaffolded language practice: “How many balloons?” “There are sixteen.”

Have several students grab a flashcard to say their age: I am eleven years old.

Small cards match. Just cut the word off all the twenty cards and have the students play matching these to the numeral.

They can also write the number word using the small cards.

"Read and Color the Number" worksheets. Color the correct number of balloons or shapes using your favorite colors.

Reading number words to match to the numeral will help remember these high-frequency words.

Students will listen about the numbers and color accordingly, increasing vocabulary. Then, write the color of each balloon.

Students connect number words to quantity, reinforcing counting skills from 1 to 20.

Bingo boards. Use the number flashcards as bingo callers. Students fill in each bingo board with the numbers 1 to 20, but writing only five numbers in each. First to match 5 gets to say all their numbers aloud!

Matching mats.  Lay all three sets of cards face up on the table or in a pocket chart. Ask students to pick one numeral card, then find the matching balloon bunch and number word. Once matched, they can say the full sentence: “I see sixteen balloons. This is the number 16. It says sixteen.”

Another use for the mats is to cut all the number words and place in random order in a book ring, Students can color the balloons numbers as they see on the card.

Several spaces on the game board have a number balloon (1–20). Students roll a die and move forward. If they land on a balloon, they must say the number. There is an optional small board game to color the number word.
