Here is a set of pens in different colors to just review and drill: What color is the pen?

Have your students sort all the cards by color on the board or on a table. There is a flashcard in every color.

If you like this set, I do have more like these here: https://eflpreschoolteachers.blogspot.com/2020/08/school-theme-for-kindergarten-holistic.html

You can do a very extensive sorting with the school items in each color.

Introduce his and her using these children flashcards holding a school item. Students should identify possession.Divide the board into his and her to place each flashcard.
Ask questions:
Teacher: What is this?
Students: It’s a ruler.
Teacher: Whose ruler is this?

There is a set of worksheets to review this grammar concept.

Whose? Show a flashcard and introduce: Whose pencil is this?
Students: It’s Zoe’s!

Whose?

Extra Activity. Place several flashcards on the board and have the sudunts come up and label the school item that each child has.

There is a worksheet to complement the grammar structure.  Use the flashcards for the students to write more questions and answers using the worksheet as a model on their notebooks.

Another set of flashcards to use his or her/ Whose. Example: Who is this?
Students: Luke.
Teacher: What is this?
Students: a crayon.
Teacher: What color is the crayon?

Wrap up activity: Close the class by having them out away the objects that you show with your flashcards.

Teacher: Put away the sharpener! The students that put away the sharpener can line up to leave or just go. Keep going until you dismiss the class. You can add color to what the they have to put way. Teacher: Put away the yellow pencils!

  School Unit Small Cards

All the flashcards come in a smaller format.
Group drawing activity. Hand in small pieces of paper to your students. Students will start drawing the word that you say, show the small card just in case. When you say, STOP, students will give their piece of paper to the students next to him/her to continue drawing. And then when you say STOP again, they have to turn in the paper and have them write the word. Students will laugh when they see the complete drawing. They can stand up and show their drawing to the class and say what it is:  It’s a ruler.

School unit small cards

Love this simple and interactive game.  Use it to help reinforce the new vocabulary, as in my example, the school unit words.

Print all the small cards from the unit and the templates for the tic tac toe, all X and O. Play continues until one student or team gets three marks in a row wither horizontally, vertically or diagonally.

Students can play multiple rounds by changing the small cards with the school items to new words.

Practice spelling with the letters included in the resource.

Total Physical Response for Elementary ELL

A lot has been said about Total Physical Response. Teachers usually do it at the beginning of the school year with their students. It has so many benefits for you and the learner.

Total Physical Response
I have done it with my classes and even more with the Kindergarten students. It's a way for no translation to the native language. I used to make flashcards with magazine cutouts, yes! no printer around those days. I moved on to make flashcards using clip art, the ones available for FREE. Nowadays, I have included the Commands Flashcards on all the resources from the Kindergarten Series 1 to 30.

So, if you are teaching the Farm Unit, review, reinforce or introduce the classroom commands using the Flashcards.
Teacher: Stand up like the pig!
             Sit down like the sheep!

There's also the goat, the cow, the horse and the hen.
Here is the blog post for more on the flashcards:   https://eflpreschoolteachers.blogspot.com/2022/04/farm-unit-flashcards-for-kindergarten.html

If you have new students, the Greetings unit for Kindergarten English Language Learners have the very basics Classroom Commands that you can place around your classroom. LINK: https://eflpreschoolteachers.blogspot.com/2020/08/greetings-theme-for-kindergarten.html

Show your students a command flashcard and have the class mime the action. These are great for those first weeks of the school year. LINK: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Colors-Unit-for-Kindergarten-Holistic-English-Series-2-5956256
There are units that we can use TPR using the flashcards to review the new vocabulary. Here is an example:  Place several Town unit flashcards around the classroom. Show the students the command flashcard and have them go to that place doing the action.

Teacher: Run to the post office!

You can bring the Commands Flashcards for the Playground unit to the playground. Use them to have the students mime each action that they do in the playground.
Teacher: run! (students mime running in the class)

End of the school year printable book

Go to my store and grab it for FREE!! LINK: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/All-About-Me-For-Elementary-EFL-5934773

For the end of this different school year I created this printable book. It turned out cute. Students sent their videos with their version and they were beyond perfect.

Provide students with this meaningful production experience.

Take a look at the video and see how I assembled it. I sent the video to the students as an example and they did it with their own information and it showed how much fun they had along with the family.

LINK to the FREE School Unit resource for Elementary English Language Learners:

This resource comes with 24 small School Unit flashcards. Use them to have your students identify the school supplies.
School Unit flashcards

Here are some
Flashcards Ideas to introduce or review the classroom or school objects vocabulary.
1. Who has it ?  Game : pass out all the school flashcards to some students in the class. Call out a word that is on a card. The student with that card has to stand up, show the card and say the word. Continue with all the playing cards.

2.  YES or NO puppetsMake the puppets by printing the template onto cardboard and gluing a craft stick behind each puppet.
Hold up a school flashcard and ask: Is it a (table) ?
Prompt the students to nod(YES) or shake(NO) their heads and answer YES or NO.  And you can also use the YES and NO puppet.
If the answer is YES, have them repeat: Yes, It´s a pen.(Show the yes puppet)
If the answer is NO, have them repeat NO, it isn´t a table. It's a crayon. (Show the NO puppet)
flashcards classroom objects.

3. Review or Evaluation:
Place on the board  or table a flashcard. Say a word or sentence. Have the child point to the flashcard.
Teacher: eraser. It´s an eraser.
Student:( Points) eraser.
school unit flashcards
Put a different pair of flashcards and repeat.
Teacher: board. It´s a board.
Student:( Points) board.
Teacher: Very Good.

The prize or reward for your students
. Print and tape a safety pin behind each prize. As each student masters the flashcards give the prize.

4. Another Game: Display all the flashcards with a number under each one. The teacher or the student names a flashcard in a random order and the class says the number . Then say a number  and the class says the flashcard word or a sentence: The scissors are red.

Bingo Game:
Distribute the blank bingo grid to each student. Have the students fill in 7 school words. Draw a random card and call it out so that the student can look for the word in their bingo grid and cross it off. When a student  has  crossed out all the words , he or she calls out  BINGO !

Also make your call out Bingo folder. I made two sets, a black and white one and a colored version. Print the black and white small cards  onto colored  paper and the colored set onto white paper. As you call out the words just place them on the folder where they belong. Using this system children can play  in small groups.

 School theme book:
Give students the chance to read. Read to them or have them read after they know the vocabulary words. This is a decodable book that builds on previously taught words, helping students gain confidence and fluency. You can conduct guided reading so students can follow along, make as many copies as needed, maybe one for 2 students. Have students reread with their partner.  It can be used on electronics as a pdf file.

           There is another book.

School unit Task cards: make the  copies need. Laminate for further use. Display a set of cards to each group of 4 or 6 students.

Students select their task card and write the answer in their notebook in the order of their preference.

This is a school unit memory matching game. It can be used to assess the students by connecting the cards. Print the sets of cards, one with pictures and another with the names of the school objects. Divide the class into groups of no more than 4. Hand each group a set of cards. Have the students spread the cards facing up on the table and take turns connecting the corresponding names and pictures. The student who correctly connects the most pairs of cards wins.

school unit Pocket charts: so many uses in the classroom, get one because I´ll be posting many ideas. This is a simple matching the phrase to the picture. After they finish students can write all phrases in their notebooks.

Let’s start by introducing the Prepositions Flashcards.
Here are some examples on how to use the flashcards to introduce the grammar structures:

I prepared a School unit sentence association game. I did it in a different way this time. I placed the pictures pages in a clear sheet and then cut all the sentences into cards. The aim of the game is to match the sentence card to each picture.

Watch the
video on how to use the game. The game can be done placing the sentences in the clear sheets and the cards will be the pictures.

The school unit cutouts! Now when distance learning is on demand, I researched that most teachers use cutouts. I love cutouts. I started using them when teaching with the book Sprinkles. The cutouts can be used for many things.

The cutouts can be used on the board. I made two examples. But the cutouts are great for using them within your lesson plan.

Give the students the cutouts and have them place them where they want and say a sentence. It a nice speaking activity. My children did it for me, I did not make any corrections. Watch the video.

Here is the picture of the end of the activity, I had to trim the video. Have the students draw their own picture inspired on the cutouts activity. Then, write a description.

Sometimes holding the cutouts with your hand might be complicated if you are doing distance learning. I glued a craft stick behind each cutout and made a short VIDEO demonstration on how to teach using the cutouts. Obviously, have the students repeat after you. Then, ask questions as you put up the cutouts.

 Make a school unit
book. The students read the sentences and complete the book by gluing the school items where they belong.

Watch the video and see how I put it together. Have the students read the book using a pointer:
