Worksheets can be used for differentiationand provide extra practice. Tailor to meet the needs of each student in class with this variety of worksheets. The worksheets can challenge and support all your learners during your practice part of the lesson plan. 

There is a set of toys unit vocabulary words that will allow your students to practice and reinforce the new content. Here is one with words for the students to draw around them to give meaning. Drawing help to deepen the understanding of the new words. It requires critical thinking as to how to represent it visually.

More repetition as students write all the words into the letter shapes that the words start with. This process enhances comprehension and reinforcement of vocabulary retention. Send it for homework.

Read and match worksheet. Basically, a reading comprehension worksheet to exercise critical thinking to analyze the incomplete words and make a connection.

Have the students write the names of toys to help them remember the vocabulary they’ve learned.

Use this set of worksheets to establish a connection between the spoken and written Language.

Use the word search worksheet for the practice of recognizing toy names in a sea of letters, which reinforces visual recognition of vocabulary words. Learners will scan for the toys words as a way to enhance the students’ focus and attention to detail.

Worksheets for the students to complete sentences by filling in the blanks with the correct toy name. Find worksheets to practice forming and answering questions about toys.

Read-and-color worksheets often use simple sentences, which help ELLs practice reading comprehension. They need to understand what they read in order to color the correct items.  These will promote higher thinking skills in your learners. 

Expand the worksheet to other themes. Have the students cut the teddy bear and glue onto their notebooks or paper and label the parts of the face.

Reviewing a robot family allows students to simultaneously reinforce toy-related vocabulary and introduce or review family-related terms (mother, brother, etc).

By relating toys to a house setting, students can see how vocabulary and language structures are used in everyday contexts, as they draw the toys in the rooms of the house.

The face and toys worksheets include activities like matching, answering, and coloring to cater to kinesthetic learners who benefit from hands-on activities.

Associating the colors written word with an image can serve as a memory aid.

The favorite toy worksheet can lead to a speaking activity. When all the worksheets are done, have the children walk around and find another student or group of students with the same favorite toy. Then, graph the results.

Toys Unit small cards for the Elementary English Language Learners-Starters

Use the toys unit small cards for interactive learning for small group activities. Use these to encourage conversation, games and collaborative learning.    It is a great way to present vocabulary using visuals.

Found this activity for spelling practice to help memorize the key vocabulary. Print the template for each student. Have them throw the dice and count the letters in each word. Then, they write it under the corresponding dice. Students can even look up for more toys words and complete the columns.

Another die idea. Make two dice using the cards. I found a shoe box and managed to make the dice cutting up the cards.

The idea is to throw the die and complete the spelling bingo printable. Then, start playing as you call on the words and the students tick them all to shout BINGO! It is a fun and easy way to have the students write the new words and memorize them.

Another easy idea for the students to work individually or in pairs, is to cut the word out of each card and have them match to the picture.

Guess! Place all the small cards in a stack in the middle of a group of students. They will take turns to guess which is the top card before turning it. If he/she could guess, then keeps the card. If not, the card goes to the bottom of the pack. The winner is the one with the most cards.

Toys Unit Flashcards for the Elementary English Language Learners-Starters

This is a unit that comes up in several textbook series. I am including the most common words that I found in those books. The flashcards are an engaging tool for your students. Use them to reinforce the connection between the word and the picture making it easy to memorize. They are handy to introduce the topic of the unit and promote communicative language.

Reinforce grammar with the question: What + be?
Teacher: What is this?
Students: It's a kite.

Hand in the Toys flashcards and have the students arrange them in alphabetical order. This will help your students to build their new vocabulary in a systematic and structured way. Students will identify all the words: This is a ball.

Write the letters and numbers to make a grid on the board to place the flashcards in random order. Prepare your list of questions for each letter/word combination. The grid is wonderful as it provides a visual representation of all the flashcards to comprehend the activity.

You can use my questions as a guide.

Hand in the Pictionary worksheet and have the students draw any item that you have assigned to each one. Students will come to the front with their drawing and have the students guess. The person that guesses first wins a point. Playing this drawing game fosters creativity in your students. They will use their imagination to represent the toys through a drawing.

Food unit Printable Book for Elementary English Language Starters

Expose your students to printed text, even if it is written by their peers. Give young learners the opportunity to practice writing short texts, which is crucial to develop literacy skills in the new language. Reading will be done as they recognize the target language in simple words or sentences.

Adapt this book to your student’s level. Give your students a writing and reading practice in a practical way using the Food Unit books photocopiable templates provided in the resource.

Print a template for each student. It can be a menu or the food I like book or do both. 

Students will cut the template and fold the match book.

Students will glue the cover of their match book. I choose the food I like as my example.

On the blank pages, students can draw the food items, they can cut from magazines and glue them. They should write a descriptive word, phrase or sentence.

Fold the food unit match book and exchange with other students to read. There you have a fun interactive activity to wrap up the unit.
