St. Patrick’s Day for Elementary ESL

Link to the St. patrick's Day resource:

I have always liked this Holiday. In the 90’s I was teaching after school ESL and this is an old picture of what we did with the children.

Now, let’s start with the resources that I have prepared.
Puppets. Make puppets with the clovers to review colors.
Teacher: What color is this?
Students: red!
Teacher: It’s a red clover.
Worksheets. Have the students complete their worksheets to review color words.
Then place the worksheet in a clear plastic sheet. Students can trace the words using whiteboard markers and then erase. Save for future worksheets.

I made these colored plates once. I just colored a paper plate in a different color to do sorting. I am recycling them to sort the clovers.
I love the scrabble letters that I made for a product months ago. I am putting them here, you can use them for every single lesson just for making words or for making a crossword.
Or use the color letters printables to make the color words.
Use the writing pad or notebook for writing the color words.
The bottle caps printable is free. I made it years ago and have used it a lot. Here is the link. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Number-Bottle-Caps-2155938
More worksheets. Students color and trace the words in the worksheet. Then, cut and paste on their notebooks and write a sentence.
Or the students can color and cut each item and glue them alphabetically.
Listen and color worksheet.
Teacher: Color their hats green, black and yellow.
Teacher: Color his shirt orange and her blouse orange.
Teacher: Color their shoes black.

Review colors and numbers at the same time. Say the color of the numbers in random order.
Teacher: Number seven is orange.
Then, have the students write the color and number words next to each picture.
They can cut each number and dictate the order to put them.
Teacher: six, ten, nine, seven.
I found these cute gnomes images and I had to create something and thought that it could fit for prepositions. Students can color them and make a gnome village per group. I used toilet paper rolls, paper towels rolls and carton eggs. I glued the gnomes onto craft sticks and then made a slit onto the carton egg and placed the gnomes and the rest of the pieces.
I used them for prepositions. Students listen and place the gnomes and other items as they listen or they can give the instructions and the other groups follow.
Teacher: The gnome is next to house number 1.
The gnome is behind house number 3.
The gnome is in front of house number 4.
The clover is behind the yellow house.
A craft. I grabbed a black plastic plate that I had around the house, cut the middle of the plate to make a wreath. I glued all the pieces.
Let’s dress the leprechaun. Dictate the color for each clothes piece.
That give directions for gluing them.
Teacher: Color the hat green and the belt is black with yellow.
Glue the socks on the leprechaun.

More clothes and body.  Color the pictures and label the parts of the body and the clothing pieces.
And flashcards! Yes, again… use for many games for those dreaded 5 minutes left.

Valentine's Day colors activities for esl

Valentine's Day is such a pretty Holiday!
I made this resource based on colors review.
valentine's day activities for esl

To introduce the Holiday, I made some puppets to greet each child. You can use them for almost anything in the class during this month. It is an art to be learned on how to get the most benefit from them.
Now, review colors. The same puppets can be colored. But I placed them into a fun foam crown that I made with a little pocket on the front.
Teacher: What color am I? Red?
Students: NO!! Green! You are green.
The Scrabble letters printed in pink and red can add up to review writing the color word for each heart.
I made these colored paper plates years ago and they work well for sorting.
and a little writing using the colored hearts.

I love making books for the Holidays! It is a cut and paste book with trace the sentence on each page.
To assemble it I found this cute idea on Pinterest and gave it a try. I thought it would be difficult but it turned out quite easy.Glue a piece of ribbon on the top of each page.
Glue the paper bags one onto another and place the paper with the ribbon into each paper bag.
To read each page the student has to pull the ribbon.

I added the character’s from the book to make puppets to make read alongs or for storytelling.

A simple and easy matching game. Students just color each heart in a color and match the heart to the word.

  Or use the worksheet.

Or assemble the OLD LADY that swallowed… a Heart, this time.
I used a cereal box.

I made a few coloring pages. Some are color by number.

 Others are read and color.

Watch the video of the resource:

I always use flashcards to introduce the grammar point. I wish I had all these resources when I was teaching at a school 30 years ago. I had to draw mine or use magazine cutouts. Well, time flies and here we are.

Use the big flashcards to place the on the board as mine. They will give the use of the possessive adjectives in context.
Teacher: I run to my school.
Underline and point out I and My. Continue with the rest of cards.

I also made some cutouts to make sentences.
Teacher: My favorite color is pink.
Students: Our favorite color is brown.

Play is also a teaching tool to review this grammar point giving student access to communication and creation.
Game 1: Play sentence association.

Display all the cards on a table and have the students place a sentence next to the picture card just as your board example.

And do even more, give them a blank rectangle and students write a sentence using a possessive adjective.

Game 2: Match the subject pronoun to the adjective pronouns.

Game 3. Make possessive adjectives sentences. Cut all the words from each sentence and have the students build the sentence and match to the picture cards. I glued each word onto fun foam to make their studier.

Game 4. Sort the sentences into Possessive adjectives, form, questions.

underline the possessive pronouns

Or sort them using envelopes. I placed a big clip on the back of each envelope for standing purpose. I also glued the super children characters on each envelope.

Game 5. Feed the zebra. I cut all the words from each sentence of the sentence association game. I grabbed an empty soda plastic bottle and glued the zebra printable. I managed to cut the mouth out. Students feed the zebra by reading each word.

                                 I made a short video.

On the notebook. It is always fun to cut and glue.
