Worksheets for Elementary English Language Learners

 Worksheets fall into the practice part of a lesson plan. use them to expand the language syllabus.Sometimes we just need more because of the students in our classroom in that moment. Text books just come a limited quantity of activity book pages, so here I present a set of lots of worksheets for each unit for you to choose the ones that you think you learners will benefit from.

Here is an example of the worksheets available for the greetings unit. There is a presentation page.

I placed them into clear plastic sheets and into a folder.  This way it will save you money on printing a set for every student. You can just have several sets available.

Students can grab the folder, write on the worksheets using a dry erase marker and then erase the answers after you have checked it for another student to use them.

The worksheets can help with assessment as a way to prepare for an upcoming test with almost all the type of questions and tasks.

Simple printable books can be engaging for your students. They will actively color the teddy bears and cut /paste the texts or just write their own texts for their peers to read. It is a creative process to connect the language learned.

Printable Toys unit games are a fun addition to your resource library. They are engaging and motivating for your students. Students are usually interested to actively participate in the different games available.

The board games are just print and assemble the markers. This kind of games involve strategic thinking. Students will have to describe where they land in order to move on the board.


 Print a worksheet for each student and a set of cards for each group for the descriptive sentence game. Students will have to create as many sentences as they can and draw a representation on the space provided. Award points to longer sentences. This activity contributes to language fluency as they practice constructing sentences. This is an opportunity for the students to gain confidence in using the new language.

The letter tiles are an interactive learning activity. Students can actively form words or crosswords. Print one or two templates for each group. They will learn to cooperate while putting the letters in words in order.

Sentence and picture association game is fun to use as a grammar reinforcement practice. It is a cognitive skill builder when children match descriptions with visual representation.

Many ways to play this toys unit word association game. It can be simple matching the word to the picture, memory and any other to practice turn-taking.

What about having the players construct sentences using the word or picture that are in a pile as they come up.

Pocket charts can be used for almost anything that your students need. Have the practice sentence construction and reading as the match the sentence to the picture.

Worksheets can be used for differentiationand provide extra practice. Tailor to meet the needs of each student in class with this variety of worksheets. The worksheets can challenge and support all your learners during your practice part of the lesson plan. 

There is a set of toys unit vocabulary words that will allow your students to practice and reinforce the new content. Here is one with words for the students to draw around them to give meaning. Drawing help to deepen the understanding of the new words. It requires critical thinking as to how to represent it visually.

More repetition as students write all the words into the letter shapes that the words start with. This process enhances comprehension and reinforcement of vocabulary retention. Send it for homework.

Read and match worksheet. Basically, a reading comprehension worksheet to exercise critical thinking to analyze the incomplete words and make a connection.


Have the students write the names of toys to help them remember the vocabulary they’ve learned.

Use this set of worksheets to establish a connection between the spoken and written Language.

Use the word search worksheet for the practice of recognizing toy names in a sea of letters, which reinforces visual recognition of vocabulary words. Learners will scan for the toys words as a way to enhance the students’ focus and attention to detail.

Questionnaires are a very effective instructional tools to have your students communicate. Encourage them to survey classmates even the shy ones.
