Prepositions and the School Unit for Elementary ELL

This resource is found at this link at the TPT store: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/School-Theme-for-Elementary-ESL-1707072

This resource uses a crayon and a crayon box. It aligns with the  school supplies, or classroom objects, making it a versatile tool for reinforcing learning throughout the school year. All to prepare a model lesson plan for your english class.

Introduce prepositions using the flashcards and writing the sentences on the board: The crayon is on the crayon box.

crayons and prepositions flashcards
Use the opportunity to write questions on the board and have the students ask more questions for the class to answer: Where is the crayon?

Flashcards offer clear visual cues, which helps students grasp the meaning of prepositions more easily. Cut the word out of each flashcard and have the students match to the image.

Small cards give students flexibility to create a variety of sentences, encouraging creativity. They will write a text that you give a prompt or they show their creativity.

Students must carefully listen and follow instructions: Put the blue crayon on the crayon box. I suggest that you have the cutouts ready. I glued the crayon box onto a toilet paper roll.

Visual and kinesthetic learners can see and manipulate the crayons in various positions relative to the box, reinforcing spatial concepts through movement and observation. Students can also make their sentences for the classmates to recreate.

Teacher: The crayon is under the crayon box.

As students work with the resource, they’ll also reinforce color vocabulary, by printing the worksheets.

Rolling the die adds a game-like element to color the preposition images on the worksheet, motivating students to actively participate. The die and worksheet can be used for solo practice or in pairs.

More worksheets to complete the practice section of your lesson plan.

The matching mat allows students to link visual cues with written prepositions, reinforcing vocabulary.

Have the puzzle ready to give students a hands-on way to construct sentences, helping them understand prepositions.

Playing games gives students plenty of opportunities to speak, listen, and understand food-related vocabulary in context, which reinforces language skills. Use these for the productuve parts of the lesson plan for your english class.

Foster collaborative learning as students work effectively in groups to put together this puzzle. Use the game to help with reading fluency and word recall. Solving puzzles requires focus and persistence.

puzzle fruit and vegetable game

Teachers can easily adjust the difficulty of the games to match students’ language proficiency. Students can simply draw what is described in the cards. More advanced students can create more sentences and say more fruit and vegetables to draw.

Students practice reading sentences using the grammar point: There is /There are and the comprehension by identifying the correct fruit or vegetable to draw using the B/W version or the colored one.

Most games are designed for minimal prep, allowing teachers to implement it quickly and with minimal setup. Writing out the names of fruits and vegetables helps students practice spelling, reinforcing correct letter sequences and word formation.

Students can work in small groups by following the path along the board. Players have opportunities to listen carefully to instructions, answer to questions to the cards out loud, enhancing oral language development. Students will win the coin points if they answer correctly. The student with the most points wins.

Turkey Family for Thanksgiving Teaching -Elementary ELLs

This resource is included in The Family Unit for Elementary ELLs. Link To the resource:   https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Family-Unit-for-Elementary-ELL-Starters-1804475

This Turkey Family resource is perfect for engaging elementary English language learners with family vocabulary. It introduces students to Thanksgiving themes, building cultural awareness. All to prepare your lesson plan for your english class.

The turkey family can be used to review the family-related words, helping students practice terms like “mother,” “father,” “brother,” and “sister” in a fun, memorable way using the printable flashcards.

turkey family flashcards

Teachers can create interactive activities around the turkeys, like naming family members, describing them, or using simple sentences, boosting speaking confidence by creating small cards on the templates provided.

The Turkey Family worksheets in the resource offer a great way to support both vocabulary building and holiday-themed learning. There are color words and then bind together and create a book.

By engaging with written tasks, students build reading comprehension and writing skills, which are crucial for language development. There are: color by number, complete the family words, answer the yes/no questions.

Games provide a playful way for students to repeatedly use family-related vocabulary in context. As students play, they need to speak and listen to each other, promoting language production as they move along the board: It’s a blue feather. If the students say the correct word, that feather card is available for that player to take.

The goal is that players get as many feathers. They will color the feathers on their worksheet if they have the cards. They will continue playing until they get as many cards possible. The winner is the one with the most feathers to color.

They will complete their turkey on their worksheet, either mother, father, brother, sister or baby, just one. They will make a craft with their turkey member by adding the feathers and the person. Make a display in class.
