Emotions are the feelings we have inside. It is important that English students learn to use these expressions. Use these printable cards during during your emotions unit.

Introduce Emotions with Flashcards

Students can see a clear picture of the emotion on the flashcard and connect it with the word. They also allow for interactive activities such as matching, role-playing, games, and question-and-answer practice, which helps children remember the vocabulary and use it in real situations.

This activity helps beginners students connect the visual image, body language, and spoken sentence. Hold an emotion flashcard and ask: How does he feel?

Ask a student to pick any emotion flashcard. Then ask, How are you today?”

Farm Unit – Present Continuous for Elementary ELLs

Reinforce this grammar point through simple interactive games to help the learners grasp it more fully.  Print both quilts.  Cut any quilt into squares or use as a full board. Give students the sentence squares with the present continuous sentences.  Students match each sentence to the correct picture. For more practice: mix up the sentences and the pictures and play a memory/matching game.It can serve as a review center.

Halloween Food Vocabulary Activities for Elementary ESL Students | Flashcards, Worksheets, Games & Bingo

Halloween is the perfect time to review food vocabulary in a fun and engaging way! This Halloween Food Vocabulary resource helps elementary ESL/EFL learners practice everyday food words through hands-on activities, speaking games, worksheets, bingo, and interactive learning centers. Students develop vocabulary, sentence-building, and communication skills while enjoying a seasonal theme that increases motivation and participation. 


Review food vocabulary in a Halloween context to help elementary English language learners connect familiar words to a seasonal theme.

Putting the food words into Halloween food vocabulary flashcards makes it fun to connect with everyday food terms. 

Make puzzles out of the flashcards to reinforce vocabulary recognition. Cut each flashcards into several pieces.

 Encourage speaking practice as students say the food item they found.: 

“I have a hamburger.”


Halloween FOOD ESL activities with the flashcards

Arrange the Halloween food flashcards face-up on a desk or wall — this is the “Halloween Food Stand.” One student is the “shopkeeper,” the other is the “customer.” Print the sign to add make it fun.
The customer student looks at the flashcards and says:

“I want a hot dog, please.”

The shopkeeper student finds the card and says:
“Here you are.”

The customer student replies:
“Thank you.”

Students can make even more short dialogues.


Here are a few ideas for creating your stand in an easy and simple way.

Idea 1:  Place a  table against a wall, attach the Halloween Food Stand sign from the resource  above the table, and display the food flashcards in rows. Students take turns being the seller and the buyer.

Ideas 2: Use the bulletin board in the classroom and place the Halloween sign at the top. Attach the food flashcards with Velcro or pushpin so students can remove and "buy" items. Add price tags and play money.

Give a small group of students a set of small cards. Each one picks a card and writes a sentence starting with:

o    I like… (e.g., I like ice cream and soda.)

o    I want… (e.g., I want a hot dog.)

Have them share their sentences with the group. Turn it into a group survey: students ask each other “Do you like…?” or “Do you want…?” and record answers.
